Arriving in New Haven from Hong Kong, I was struck by the hybridity of Asian American Takeaway Cuisine and how it relates to processes of diaspora, assimilation, and acclimation; how it draws boundaries and finds community. Sweet orange duck sauce is a phenomena not found in China but seems to be an innovative organic interaction that is integrally American and a result of cross-cultural migrations.
